FA FIRRUU ILALLAAH.
"So ran towards God!" (Adh-Dzariyat: 50)
In Arabic, the word al-firar means running normally which is used to express running from something to be feared. Running which chased by lion, mad dog, or an enemy, for instance. The word al-firar is also used to run to catch something, or in other words: jara-yajri-jirayah.
If someone ran because he is chased by a lion, he would focus on efforts to rescue himself. He would not care if, for instance, there are thorns or nails that pierced his leg. He will not care too if, for instance, someone asked him to stop and be given a pile of treasure. He will go on sprinting.
Allah commands us to run toward Him as if we run to escape a lion. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyah explained in Madarijus Salikin, the first step of running to Allah comprises three things: Running from ignorance towards science, running from laziness to the spirit, and running from narrow hearts toward airy hearts.
From ignorance towards science
The ignorant according to Islam is not just people who do not have knowledge about something. People whose knowledge and broad horizons of thinking can be ignorant. According to Islam, science includes the knowledge of truth and righteousness which have been known to it.
When Prophet Yusuf. being forced to do humiliating, he-as enshrined by Allah in Surah Yusuf: 33-pitted, "O my Lord, I prefer imprisonment more than fulfill their invitation to me. If you do not keep me from their guile, I would tend to (fulfill their wishes) and I certainly be among people who are ignorant. "
Amr ibn Hisham that before the advent of Islam was named by Abul Hakam because of the intelligence and the height of his knowledge, earned Abu Jahl because he did not want to follow the truth. Amr ibn Hisham certainly understood and was able to digest all the teachings delivered by the Prophet. But because the science was not followed by implementation, he was not considered a knowledgeable man. Instead, he was declared as the ignorant.
From laziness to the spirit
Ibn al-Qayyim stated that the nature of lazy, long wishes, and similar to them are very dangerous for a person. Laziness is like a tree that only led to a loss and regret.
There are several verses in the Qur`an that suggests that we accept all of the commandments with all sincerity, passion. Allah says,
Khudzuu maa aatainaakum biquwwatin wadzkuruu maa fiihi la'allakum tattaquun.
"Hold firmly what We have given you and remember what is in it, that ye may fear Allah." (Al-Baqarah: 63)
Wa Katabnaa Lahuu Fil Al-waahi Min Kulli Syai-in Maw'idzatan Wa Tafshiilan Likulli Syai-in Fa Khudzhaa Bi Quwwah.
"Have We written to Moses on alwaah everything as a lesson and an explanation for everything. Then (we say), 'Hold him firmly, command thy people to hold on (His commandments) with the best!'. "(Al-Araf: 145)
From Narrow Chest to Airy Chest
Later on, let any Muslim leave narrow chest as soon as possible to airy chest. Narrow chest comes to someone when he is worried and upset about the benefit of himself, his property, or his family. He would be moody and bend his face if there is a threat comes to himself, his possessions, or his family.
The true threat is actually the threat that comes from Allah 'Azza Wa Jalla. The threats come only if someone breaks God's rules. The threat comes from other than Allah is essentially nothing compared to his threats.
Actually, if someone tsiqah (trust) in his God with truly trust, and have kind thought (positive thought) to his God after trying best of his ability, his chest would undoubtedly be airy. It has been promised by Allah Ta'ala. He will never break His promise.
Wan Man Yattaqillaah Yaj'al Lahuu Makhrajan Wa Yarzuqhu Min Haitsu Laa Yahtasib.
"Those who fear Allah, will hold the exit (of all matters) for him and be given sustenance from unexpected directions that no-but thought" (Ath-Thalaq: 2-3)
