The Great Month of Rabi'ul Awwal -- By: Shabrun Jamil Baharun (A Poor Man of Knowledge, An Islamic Counselor of Religious Affairs Ministry of Tangerang Destrict).

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Assalamu'alaikum Wa Rahmtullah Wa Barakatuh.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin, Wasshalaatu Wassalaamu 'Alaa Asyrafil Anbiyaa-i Wal Mursaliin, Sayyidinaa Wa Mawlaanaa Muhammadin, Wa 'Alaa Aalihii Wa Shahbihii Ajma'iin.

Ammaa Ba'du.

During the Month of Rabi'ul Awwal, which is the third month in the Islamic calendar, many Muslims celebrate Mawlid - the birthday of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam. The date of birth of of Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam is believed to have been on the twelfth of this month.

Despite the Prophet Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam himself never celebrated the Mawlid, he encouraged Muslims to fast on Mondays of every week for his birthday being on Monday.

In Arabic language, the word "Rabi'" means "spring" whereas Al-awwal means "the first". Thus, "Rabi' al-awwal" means "the first spring". The "spring" is the end to winter (symbol of sadness) and consequently the start of happiness.

There are some great Islamic historical events in this month. The greatest historical event of this  month is the birthday of The Prophet Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam. The Hijra (migration) took place in this month. The marriage of The Prophet Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam to Khadijah binti Khuwailid happened in this month. The first mosque in Islam is the Quba Mosque, which is built in this month as well.

We strongly miss you...O....the prophet Muhammad shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam.....
